Making stillness move

Josh Nochol-Molitor  -

I use stone to make stillness move.

I’m Joshua Nicol-Molitor, an artist who uses Pounamu and other hard stone as my medium. I am always seeking new ways to find how I can create designs that appear lightweight, that are fluid and soft out of stone which is known for its rigidity. My work is driven by the tension of what the material is and what it can be pushed to resemble.

I’m an authenticated carver having worked for Ngai Tahu at

WaeWaePounamu. I started out my journey being self-taught, but decided later on to study stone carving at Tai Poutini Polytech.
